Celebrating Local Artists
When we travel, we love to get to know local artists and artisans, and collect their work. When we acquired Villa Obra Prima, we knew it presented an opportunity to begin a serious collection to celebrate living artists of Madeira and mainland Portugal. We find this gives us a richer connection to the locale, and hope our guests find the experience as meaningful we we do.
Contemporary Art
Some pieces we have found in galleries on Madeira Island and in mainland Portugal, while others have been commissioned especially for the villa.
Traditional Craft
The collection includes pieces from local artisans who are carrying on traditions of Madeira crafts from their contemporary perspectives.
